Unable to copy all Windows permissions using a 'Backup/Migration Policy'

Some users have reported issues with copying all Windows permissions using a 'Backup/Migration Policy'.

A QuantaStor 'Backup/Migration Policy' (https://wiki.osnexus.com/index.php?title=Backup_Policies) is a feature to copy or move data between a QuantaStor system and a system that uses NFS or CIFS. When transferring data between a Windows system via CIFS, we have noticed that it may not transfer all Windows permissions.

Solution:

We recommend that users attempting to transfer data between a Windows system via CIFS, that they first use the 'Backup/Migration Policy' to transfer all of the data, as this will be faster than transferring the data using an external client. Once the data has been transferred, it is recommended to use robocopy (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/robocopy) to transfer the permissions. This method ensures that the permissions will be transferred.
