Overview
Micron has identified a critical firmware bug affecting Micron 7450 and 7500 NVMe SSDs running firmware version E2MU200. Drives with this firmware may enter a panic state, causing complete data inaccessibility. This issue has been resolved in firmware E2MU300, which must be applied immediately to prevent failures.
Affected Products
- Micron 7450 and 7500 NVMe SSDs
- Firmware version: E2MU200
Symptoms of the Bug
- Sudden panic state where the driver stops responding.
- I/O operations fail completely.
- Data becomes inaccessible with no recovery path.
- Once panic occurs, firmware cannot be updated, and the drive is permanently unusable.
Verifying Firmware Version
If you are running Micron 7450 or 7500 NVMe SSDs in your system, you can check the current firmware version using standard NVMe utilities.
# sudo nvme listExample output:
Node SN Model Namespace FW Rev
---------------- -------------------- ---------------------- --------- --------
/dev/nvme0n1 123456789ABCDEF Micron_7450_PRO 1 E2MU200
Resolution
- Micron has released firmware E2MU300 to fix this issue.
- You can download the firmware and update instructions on Micron’s website

Important Notes
- Updating is critical to prevent unrecoverable drive failures.
- We highly recommend updating as soon as possible.
- If a panic state occurs before updating, the drive cannot be recovered through normal means.
- OEM systems (e.g., Dell servers) may require vendor-specific firmware packages. Always check with your hardware vendor for the correct update path.
Support
- Contact your hardware vendor for proper guidance on updating the firmware.
- OSNEXUS Support can assist with the update once you have confirmed your agreement to the Hardware Firmware Update Policy.
